About Tridonic
Tridonic is the lighting technology company of the Zumtobel Group, based in Dornbirn, Austria. It started in 1956 making compact magnetic ballasts, introduced electronic ballasts in 1978 and digitally dimmable ballasts in 1991, and today it is one of the names most associated with DALI, the digital control protocol used across professional lighting.
Tridonic supplies the components rather than the finished fitting. Its ballasts, LED drivers and control gear go inside luminaires made by manufacturers around the world, which is why the name is familiar to electricians and specifiers and almost unknown to everyone else.
What we stock from Tridonic
We currently hold four Tridonic electronic ballasts: the TEC series for T8 fluorescent tubes, and the PCA, PC and PC BASIC series for compact fluorescent and T5 lamps, including the PCA 1x26-57 TC ECO and the PC 1x5-16W T5 PLC 2D. These are control gear, not lights, and should be installed by a qualified electrician. If you need a Tridonic driver or ballast we do not list, send us the model number and our team will confirm whether we can source it.

PCA is a Tridonic series of dimmable electronic ballasts for compact fluorescent and T5 lamps. The number in the code tells you the lamp wattage range it drives, so a PCA 1x26-57 runs a single lamp between 26W and 57W. Match the series, lamp type and wattage to your fitting, and ask our team if you are unsure.
No. A ballast controls current to a fluorescent or discharge lamp. An LED driver does the equivalent job for an LED module, and the two are not interchangeable. If you are converting a fluorescent fitting to LED, the ballast usually has to be bypassed or replaced. Tell our team what you are converting and we will confirm what you need.
A qualified electrician. Ballasts and drivers wire into the mains circuit, and damage caused by improper installation, or installation not carried out by a qualified electrician, is not covered.
