Panasonic started with a wiring device. In 1918 Konosuke Matsushita set up a workshop in Osaka with his wife Mumeno and her brother Toshio Iue, and the first product they put on the market was an improved attachment plug, a connector that let people run an appliance from a light bulb socket at a time when Japanese homes had no wall outlets. It was better made and considerably cheaper than what existed, and it is where the company begins.
More than a century later, wiring devices are still a core Panasonic business, and that is the part of Panasonic we stock: switches, sockets, isolators and dimmers rather than televisions or cameras. The range we carry is small and practical, and it is the everyday electrical fit-out for a building.
